The Order is active in several Hospitals and
Hospices and many Homes for the Elderly. Some of them are institutions
of the Order. There is a First Aid Post in the centre of Amsterdam. Care
for wanderers and the homeless is being developed by the Order.
In 1974 the Order founded, together with the Knightly Teutonic Order, Bailiwick of Utrecht, a foundation called Stichting Werken van de Johanniter Orde in Nederland en der Ridderlijke Duitsche Orde, Balije van Utrecht. The activities of more than 2000 Johanniter volunteers are coordinated within this foundation. These Johanniter Hulpen are active in Hospitals, Hospices and Homes for the Elderly, as well as in individual care at home. The foundation organises holiday weeks for disabled elderly people and has a holiday agency to assist disabled people who are looking for volunteers to help them during their holiday.
